Hennessey Performance, the Texas-based aftermarket performance shop, now offers significant power upgrades to the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1—and it wants to show you what that looks like against America’s favorite hotrod, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The Camaro ZL1 already creates massive power out of the box—its 6.2-liter supercharged LT4 V8 makes 650 horsepower—but since that’s down by 57 hp compared to the Hellcat, Hennessey worked its magic to get it into fighting shape.
In true loony Hennessey form—remember this is the same company that created the Venom GT, the once-fastest production car on the planet—the performance packs made for the Camaro ZL1 range all the way up to 1,000 horsepower. The HPE750 package this Camaro is equipped with includes a pulley upgrade for the supercharger, high-flow cats, new headers, new intake system, and new midpipes, among others, all of which have a three year/36,000 mile warranty.
To keep the playing fields even, both cars were equipped with six-speed manual transmissions. (The first video Hennessey released included a Hellcat with an automatic, which did not go over well on the internet.) The two supercharged V8-powered rockets use rolling starts and race from second through fourth gear.
