Warranty In-Depth

The Alpha Warranty offers its service contracts under six unique programs: the Alpha Tiered, ABC, A La Car, A-Plus, New Car Program, and PriorityOne program. The Alpha Tiered and ABC program are the most comprehensive coverages that include basic powertrain protection and extended coverage for most vehicle parts, as explained below.

Limited Powertrain and Powertrain Plus

Under the Alpha Tiered program, the Limited Powertrain coverage is available to vehicles with up to 15 model years or 150,000 miles on the odometer. It covers up to 130 parts in the engine, transmission, transfer case, drive axle, and cooling system. The Powertrain Plus plan covers up to 153 parts. On top of the parts included in the Limited Powertrain plan, it also covers electrical, air conditioning, fuel system, seals, and gaskets.

Under the ABC program, the Limited Powertrain plan is available to all vehicles regardless of the year or mileage. It also covers up to 130 parts, including the engine, transmission, transfer case, cooling system, and drive axle. The Powertrain Plus coverage extends to the air conditioning, electrical, and fuel system.

Extended, Supreme, and Full Coverage

The Alpha Warranty Program also offers three more coverage levels for vehicles with 15 model years or a maximum of 150,000 miles. First is an Extended Coverage that covers up to 263 basic parts, including electrical, air conditioning, cooling system, brakes, suspension, steering, seals, gaskets, turbo/supercharger, and basic powertrain components.

Up to 389 enhanced systems are covered in the Supreme Coverage level, including enhanced fuel system, suspension, cooling, and electrical. Lastly, the Full Coverage plan covers the mechanical breakdown of more than 750 basic and enhanced systems except for aftermarket accessories, wear items, and damages caused by negligence. ABC Program only has Extended and Full Coverage levels covering similar basic and enhanced systems as aforementioned.

Additional Coverage

The rest of the programs have no coverage levels and cover basic powertrain components and other basic systems. The A La Car program covers up to 88 parts and is available to vehicles with up to 15 years or 175,000 miles. The A-Plus program covers up to 260 parts and demands vehicle eligibility of up to 15 years or 150,000 miles

The New Car program is a limited warranty plan for new vehicles that covers more than 750 parts. It’s available to cars with up to five model years and 60,000 miles on the odometer. And lastly, the PriorityOne program covers more than 750 parts and has an unlimited mileage term. All these programs come with 24/7 roadside assistance services and car rental assistance.

What We Like

There are many coverage levels to choose from, including an extended powertrain warranty and a comprehensive option for new vehicle owners to cushion themselves from the financial impact of mechanical breakdowns. This places Alpha Warranty Services above other providers who only offer basic coverage options.

The warranty program includes 24/7 roadside assistance, including towing, jump start, lockout, flat tire repair, and fuel delivery services. You can also take your vehicle to any licensed repair shop of your choice if your seller doesn’t have a repair facility.

The service contracts are fully transferable. So instead of canceling the contract when you need to resell your vehicle, you can transfer it to the new car owner to help boost your vehicle’s resale value.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

What We Don’t Like

Alpha Warranty coverage only begins after 30 days or 1,000 miles from the acceptance of the agreement. Any mechanical breakdowns that may occur during that period will not be covered — they will be considered pre-existing conditions.

There’s also no coverage plan for damages caused by accidents, acts of vandalism, theft, road condition, or other causes that are beyond the control of the driver. This means that you will have to spend more money getting alternative warranty options for such instances.

It doesn’t cover the costs of routine maintenance services or replacements of parts under regular maintenance. This includes oil changes, fuel system cleaning, tune-ups, carburetor adjustments, chassis adjustments, spark plug replacements, and more.

Some vehicles aren’t eligible for the coverage, including the Alfa Romeo, BMW Z8, Aston Martin, Bentley, Dodge Viper, Dodge Stealth, Mitsubishi 3000 GT, Range Rover, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Ferrari, exotic cars, and electric vehicles.

Common Repair Costs

With cost-saving in mind, it’s important to know the average costs of common auto repairs so you can determine if a vehicle service contract can help you reduce your spending on repairs and replacements. Below are some of the most common issues and repair costs with regular vehicles:

  • No Start Diagnosis: Costs can range from $88 to $110, depending on the vehicle’s make and model.
  • Air Conditioning: Costs for replacing parts such as the refrigerant pressure switch can range from $235 to $249.
  • Brakes: Costs for replacing the emergency brake cable can average between $230 to $250.
  • Engine: Repair of common engine problems can cost about $300 to $1,500. Part replacements such as a camshaft replacement can cost about $1,400 to $1,500.
