Warranty In-Depth

Maserati lumps its powertrain warranty and its bumper-to-bumper warranty into one, both lasting four years or 50,000 miles. It is the same length of time for its corrosion perforation coverage. It also includes an emission warranty that lasts eight years of 80,000 miles. It provides a solid roadside assistance package to give you further peace of mind.

Bumper-to-Bumper Coverage

Maserati’s bumper-to-bumper coverage lasts for four years, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. It covers everything you would expect it to. Issues from poor workmanship, compromised materials, or other factory defects are covered. This comprises most of the parts in and outside of the vehicle. This coverage is a year longer than other manufacturers’ vehicles on the market, which is an excellent benefit to purchasing a Maserati.

There are a handful of exclusions. Normal wear and tear is not covered. Damage from environmental factors such as floods, fires, or storms is not covered. If you make modifications or replacements with parts that are not from Maserati, the warranty will not cover any resulting damage. Maserati does not offer routine maintenance coverage, which is surprising because other competitors on the market do. If you are reckless with your vehicle it will not cover any damage that occurs. Damage from poor road conditions are not covered, and the battery is not covered with this limited warranty, either.

Powertrain Coverage

Maserati’s powertrain coverage lasts for four years, or 50,000 miles. This is shorter than others in the industry, and is surprising from a luxury car manufacturer. For example, Jaguar offers a five year or 60,000 miles warranty, and cheaper brands like Kia can go up to 10 years and 100,000 miles. For the price you pay for the Maserati, you’re not getting powertrain coverage as a benefit.

This warranty covers the engine, transmission/transaxle, the drivetrain, and other associated parts. It does not offer unique coverage that separates it from the bumper-to-bumper warranty. So you can expect that normal wear and tear, environmental damage, and negligence will not be covered. If you decide to modify the engine, Maserati will most likely not cover it unless you use Maserati-specific parts and have it done at certified retailers. Routine maintenance and inspections for the powertrain also are not covered under this limited warranty.

Additional Coverage

Maserati offers anti-perforation for four years or 50,000 miles. So if rust corrosion occurs, Maserati will replace those body parts. They also offer emission coverage for much longer—up to eight years of 80,000 miles.

Roadside assistance is a great benefit of this warranty. It is a 24-hour service that includes help with breakdowns, flat tires, or dead batteries. If needed, Maserati will tow your vehicle free of extra charge to the closest retailer that services these vehicles. Maserati will provide you with a rental car, taxi, or even hotel accommodations if needed. There is also trip interruption reimbursement, so if you must end your vacation due to problems with the vehicle, you could get your money back.

Another excellent facet of the roadside assistance feature is that if you are abroad, Maserati will cover repatriation. Overall, this roadside assistance is excellent and provides you a sense of security as you drive locally or long distance with your new car.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

What We Like

There are plenty of things to like about Maserati’s limited warranty. It covers everything you would expect it to. Most factory defects happen within the first few years, so this length of time should keep you covered. The bumper-to-bumper coverage is longer than competitors by one year or 14,000 miles, giving it an edge on the market.

The roadside assistance is a really great benefit, offering plenty of reimbursement for things that go wrong. Towing to a Maserati retailer or auto shop gives you some peace of mind knowing the right people are working on your car. The hotel and the international repatriation feature is really good, and sets it apart from competitors. When the four years of the warranty runs out, the roadside assistance will definitely be a feature you will miss. The transferable warranty boosts the resale value of your Maserati should you choose to part with it.

What We Don’t Like

Despite the overall good quality of Maserati’s limited warranty, there are still some issues with it. The powertrain warranty is much less than other competitors, sometimes by years. For such a critical series of car components, you would expect it to be longer. Other manufacturers also offer longer anti-perforation coverage.

There is no coverage for routine maintenance. Jaguar offers this routine maintenance throughout the factory warranty. Lamborghini covers some minor maintenance and inspection work and other manufacturers offer some variety of maintenance perks.

Maserati also doesn’t cover the battery within the limited warranty, so you will need to ensure its upkeep on your own, including driving the vehicle frequently so the battery doesn't get damaged. Otherwise, the exclusions on the warranty appear to be industry standard and what you would expect. If you are reckless, negligent, or make personalized modifications to your vehicle, Maserati will not cover any resulting issues or damage.

FAQs

When purchasing a luxury Italian car like the Maserati, you will want to ensure a long life. Understanding the warranty will help you keep it running in tip-top shape. Here we’ve compiled some commonly-asked questions new car buyers have when looking at purchasing a Maserati and the limited warranty.

Q. Are Maserati vehicles reliable?

A. Common issues that occur involve the electrical components, axles, and suspension. These should all fall under the limited warranty.

Q. Is it expensive to maintain a Maserati?

A. Yes. Maserati is an Italian car maker, so the parts are foreign and pricey.

Q. How long is the Maserati warranty?

A. The bumper-to-bumper, powertrain, anti-perforation coverage, and roadside assistance all last for four years or 50,000 miles.

Is Maserati’s Warranty Worth It?

The powertrain coverage is short, and there is no routine maintenance included, but overall it is a good warranty.
