The PSA Group will go on to build shared Buick models for General Motors past 2019, according to Reuters. This comes after the French manufacturing alliance purchased Opel and Vauxhall from GM for $2 billion in March, clearing cap space for GM and giving PSA a huge amount of European market share. The two brands share several platforms, including the newly released Insignia/Regal twins, both of which will be sold under the PSA and GM banner respectively.
An announcement from Opel indicated that they will go onto build Buick models in the coming years, though they didn’t state when the partnership would end. Prior to the transaction between PSA and GM, most Buicks were products of badge engineering with Opel products sold in Europe, keeping things cheap and easy for the American auto giant. According to the statement, Opel will continue to manufacture the Buick Regal, Encore, as well as another large SUV ran under the Buick name. This comes after Buick freshly debuted the Regal Sportback and Regal TourX for the American market.
PSA also released that they will concentrate its legal bodies of Opel and Vauxhall into one company, Adam Opel GmbH. They claim that this will combine business activities between the two European brands under one company and will be completed by the middle of this year.
