About

Byron is one of those weird car people who has never owned an automatic transmission. Born in the DMV but Midwestern at heart, he lives outside of Detroit with his wife, two cats, a Miata, a Wrangler, and a Blackwing.

Experience

Like many opinionated folks, Byron got his start arguing with Random People on the Internet. Eventually, one of those people gave him the chance to contribute to a small blog, which he parlayed into a full-time job writing for Leftlane News in 2014. He moved to Autoblog late in 2019 and remained there until late 2024, when he joined The Drive. Byron also co-hosts the ongoing Notablog Automotive Podcast with friend and fellow car nerd James Riswick.

Highlights

  • Byron believes a good car is a good car, and good racing is good racing. Stadium Super Trucks or F1? The only correct answer is “yes.”
  • Would rather tell stories than compare specs. Winning is great but it’s not always interesting.
  • Occasionally found on track or your local cone course.
