The Bentley Mulsanne Grand Convertible Is All in the Numbers

Production will be extremely limited and priced more than that of a Bugatti Chiron.

Bentley will be celebrating its centennial birthday soon but if you wish to attend the party, you will need to write out a check for a hefty seven-figure sum. In exchange for a cool $3.5 million, the British luxury carmaker will build a convertible based on its seven-year-old Mulsanne to your specification. At that dollar amount, the two-door droptop is nearly ten times the price of its four-door counterpart. You’re not just buying any Bentley though. What you’re paying for instead is exclusivity as the Mulsanne Grand Convertible will be limited to just 19 units. Why the odd number? 1919 marks the year the company was founded.

The Grand Convertible will borrow its engine from the Mulsanne Speed which packs a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 producing 530 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque. While the Speed can achieve zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and top out at 190 mph, the roofless Mulsanne is unlikely to reach those numbers. At that price, it is hardly hypercar performance then.

There is one other rather important note. While the posh car has been earmarked for Europe and the Middle East, Bentley will not be selling the Mulsanne Grand Convertible in the United States. Instead, if you want something fast, British and with a soft top, you will have to settle for the Continental Supersports Convertible. Or you could spend the $3.5 million on something a bit faster.
