I don’t own anything that would be described as “tactical.” I have cargo shorts that at most I would call strategic. But, I would classify some of my EDC choices as clever, or even smart. The stuff I carry is far more appropriate for everyday life than being prepared to fight off an invasion of aliens or zombies—or even zombie aliens. Today’s round-up of EDC deals are in the same vein.
I’ve mentioned that I own several multitools and a few pocket knives. But, most of the time I’m using them to cut the packing tape off of shipping boxes. That’s why I like this pocket knife from Gerber that uses an easily replaceable blade. Yes, it’s a glorified box cutter. But that’s what I use it for so why not buy a tool that’s good at it? You can add 100 blades for 10 bucks when you order it.
Just about everyone I know who’s into cars and other machinery has a flashlight fetish and I’m no different. Some of my friends carry pocket-sized photon weapons that can literally cause eye damage. Needless to say, they aren’t particularly useful when you’re trying to find the pen that fell out of your pocket in the movie theatre. This Streamlight MicroStream 250-umen EDC ultra-compact flashlight for $33.31 can light up a dark room without melting faces.
You can call it a purse if you want, it doesn’t offend me. I like having a bag of stuff instead of looking like middle-aged-suburban-Batman trying to carry everything on my belt. I switch back and forth between sling bags like this Leaper Retro Crossbody Bag for $28.86 and messenger bags like this Sechunk vintage military leather canvas bag for $49.99. And yes, there’s even a real dead-tree book on the list. Before we were all able to carry a smartphone that gave us access to all of human knowledge in our pockets, a mechanical reference book was invaluable.
