“They were letting the 14-year-old drive, I don’t know why.”

Pam Beesly from The Office once said, "When a child gets behind the wheel of a car and runs into a tree, you don't blame the child; he didn't know any better. You blame the 30-year-old woman who got in the passenger seat and said, 'Drive, kid; I trust you.'"

Amanda Rossiter, Florida resident and the 32-year-old mother of a 14-year-old, did just that yesterday. Fox 13 News reports that the Ford Explorer the kid was driving lost control "after he over-corrected during a lane change" and crashed into a barrier. Also in the car were his father, 34-year-old Louis Gabino Serrano Soto, and three young kids, and a 16-year-old family friend. Everybody suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash, except for the 16-year-old, who merely suffered minor injuries.

Floriday Highway Patrol has charged the teen with careless driving and driving without a license, undoubtedly giving him a head start in the demerit game when he eventually does get his license. His parents have not been charged as of yet, but that is reportedly likely to change once they are out of the hospital.

"They were letting the 14-year-old drive, I don't know why," said the teen's grandfather, Joe Rossiter. You and me both, Joe. You and me both.
