Recently, the folks over at Outside Magazine covered a unique recreational vehicle build based off a former U.S. Army M92382 military personnel carrier. The unique build appears to be a labor of love, as it was all done by the owner.

Originally purchased on craigslist for $10,000, the ex-military vehicle started off as a budget build. Powered by a 8.3-liter Cummins turbocharged six-cylinder, the truck made 250 horsepower and 795 lb-ft or torque. This meant the owner did not have to sink money into the drivetrain and could focus on building the living space. After completion, the massive RV now boasts more room than most studio apartments in New York City, and comes quipped with a 100-gallon water tank, a full-sized shower, a sink/stove, two futons, and plenty of counter space.

Due to the size of the truck, there’s a sizable rear porch used for storage and easy entrance, as well as a full rooftop. The roof is split into two: one section is used for solar panels, while the other half is covered in Astroturf and used for storage/golf. According to the owner, the solar panels power all the interior lights and certain appliances, thanks to a six-volt battery storage system.

When all was said and done, the total investment was around $55,000…which seems incredibly reasonable when compared to most recreational vehicles these days.
