Check Out This Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 Built Entirely Of Lego
Brick by brick, one super fan built Porsche's 2015 Le Mans winning prototype out of Lego. I'm blown away.
There is something about Lego and the power it holds over automotive nerds like myself. There is an intersect between car folks and Lego folks, as the Venn Diagram gradually drifts toward circular. I certainly fit in there, and it would seem that Mr. Manuel Basilio Pimenta Nascimento does as well. His masterpiece, with more photos posted to his Flickr account, would seem to indicate that, anyhow. When Porsche crossed the finish line after 24 hours of racing at Le Mans in 2015, Manuel was inspired to create this extraordinarily faithful recreation of the winning car from Lego Technics pieces. The end result is far too good to not be admired.
Just building the thing from scratch was not enough for Nascimento, however, as he also constructed each individual decal on this car as well. The decals create a very faithful facsimilie of the Le Mans-winning "Porsche Intelligent Performance" livery. Perhaps the best part of all, however, is the fact that the headlamps and side number panels actually illuminate when switched on. With all of the work that went into this piece of art, the end result appears to be a kit that Lego themselves built and shipped out in a single box with instructions. Checking out some of those details, however, I'm not sure even Lego could have produced such a perfect kit.
