A 22-year-old Utah man vaulted himself into the footnotes of Porsche history on June 5, when he stole a Porsche 918 Spyder right off the showroom floor to take it on a joyride. The Drive doesn't normally condone auto theft, but c'mon, that takes chutzpah.

According to the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, Francisco Gonzalez-Velasquez boosted the 918 from the Salt Lake City Porsche dealership at around 4:30pm on Sunday. Gonzalez-Velasquez chose a beautifully simple method of stealing one of the world's most advanced supercars: He smashed the front glass of the showroom, walked inside, grabbed the keys to the car, and drove the 918 out of there. Which, we would like to point out, is literally the exact same way Giovanni Ribisi stole a Porsche 911 in Gone In 60 Seconds.

Oddly, once Gonzalez-Velasquez had his mitts on the 887-horsepower hybrid supercar, he seemed unanable to come up with anything fun to do with it. According to Detective Greg Wilking, the thief and "his" 918 Spyder were apprehended around 10:30pm, less than eight blocks from the Porsche dealership he'd stolen it from.
