Subaru’s gone gangbusters on electric vehicles this year: an updated Solterra landed first, followed by the 2026 Uncharted and 2026 Trailseeker we told you about last month.
Now it’s time for the biggest EV news of all, the three-row, seven-seat 2027 Subaru Getaway. The running gear? It’s shared with the Toyota Highlander EV, down to the battery pack and motors that make it Subaru’s most powerful vehicle ever.
Due later this year, the 2027 Getaway will launch with a dual-motor layout paired with a 95.8-kWh lithium-ion battery. Outfitted with a NACS charge port, this 420-hp Getaway has an estimated range of more than 300 miles from full charge. That’s on par with some of its important rivals, but its charging rate caps out at 150 kW, which means filling the pack from 10 to 80% might take half an hour. Early next year, the Getaway will add a 77.0-kWh battery pack option, which will retain a dual-motor layout and Subaru’s calling card, all-wheel drive.

To trailmaxx things, Subaru’s raised the roof—and the underbody of the Getaway to provide 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Its X-Mode traction system dials up Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, and combines brainpower with the Grip Control and downhill-assist features from the Trailseeker to keep an even keel on most any road surface. It’ll tow up to 3,500 pounds, Subaru says—or rip off 0-60 mph runs in under five seconds.

The sleekly styled Getaway—really, one of Subaru’s best-ever shapes—cloaks a cabin with grand interior spaces. The cockpit serves up a 12.3-inch digital display and a 14.0-inch central touchscreen for front-seat passengers to twiddle and configure, whether they’re setting Apple CarPlay routes or Spotify playlists. In the second row, a bench seat can be swapped in for standard captain’s chairs; either way, a touch of a button cues the seat to step out of the way for better third-row access. That backmost seat’s good for six-footers, Subaru promises, and folds out of the way to convert 15.9 cubic feet of storage into 45.6 cubic feet.
Prices haven’t been firmed up, but the 2027 Getaway will rival vehicles like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9, and of course, the Toyota Highlander EV. When it goes on sale late this year, the Getaway will sport standard 19- or 20-inch wheels, ambient lighting, a passel of USB-C charging ports, adaptive cruise control, twin wireless smartphone charge pads, and options for a rearview camera, a panoramic glass roof, heated second- and third-row seats, and cooled front- and second-row seats.
