New Opel Insignia Wagon Revealed, Could Be Next Buick Regal Variant

Earlier in 2016, we saw glimpses of the Opel Insignia wagon running around town without camouflage. Photos were limited, only allowing us to see the car from slightly awkward angles that didn't fully display the shape of the future Buick Regal wagon. Despite that, we knew that it looked to be strikingly beautiful, especially when you consider it wasn't designed for an elegant German luxury brand but instead an American division of GM. Official photos have been released by the manufacturer and it's clear to see exactly how beautiful the forthcoming model is.
In terms of styling, this will keep Buick at the front of the global stage in a segment that competes with manufacturers who are known for beauty. The Volvo V60 is one that comes to mind, bringing back sleek and opulent lines to the wagon category. The Opel Insignia Grand Tourer does its job of matching the Swede's design, making us especially hopeful for when it comes to our side of the pond as a Buick. It also makes a strong case against the Audi A4 Allroad, yet another European competitor that finds itself in the same class.
Interior luxury is not to be overlooked either. Buick has consistently had a reputation for offering acceptable comfort that slots below that of other luxury brands like its sister company Cadillac, but they look to be changing it up here. You can expect it to be adorned with high quality materials that replace cheap feeling cabins of GM's past. Rich leather and beautiful color choices keep things going on the inside of the future Regal Wagon. Apple Car Play and Android Auto also make an appearance, making your favorite smartphone apps safely accessible.
Driving aids round out the Opel Insignia's convenience features. Lane-keep assist will be available along with automatic emergency braking, making sure that you and all of your passengers stay safe in case of the unpredictable. Radar Cruise Control is also featured, making your drive around town that much easier and taking the burden off of you during long drives home. Powertrain options are yet to be announced, though we believe they will be similar to the Chevrolet Malibu's, the platform mate to the next generation Regal. This includes a turbocharged 2.0L I4, keeping things efficient for the comfy commuter. All wheel drive with torque vectoring control will be available with front wheel drive being standard.
The model's official unveiling will take place at the Geneva Auto Show in March. Expect to see many more details when it makes its appearance there, showing all of the features that we hope to get here in the States.
