Hey there. Will Sabel Courtney here for Drive Wire on December 16th, 2016.

Today on Drive Wire: McLaren has built its 10,000th production car.

The British supercar maker made the announcement on Thursday. It’s a big milestone for the company; McLaren only jumped back into the production car business five years ago, and while it took three and a half years for the company to make its first 5,000 cars, it only took 22 months for it to build the second 5,000.

Business has been good for McLaren lately. The company is on track to sell more than 3,000 cars this year, up from a little more than 1,600 last year. That puts it nearly even with Lamborghini, which sold a record 3,245 cars last year.

The company is aiming to sell at least 4,500 cars by the year 2020. As part of its plan, the company intends to build 15 new models by the year 2022.

The 10,000th car to roll off the assembly line, by the way, was a ceramic gray 570S.

That’s it for Drive Wire on December 16th, 2016. I’m Will Sabel Courtney; thanks for watching, and please check out The Drive for more on the big stories from the transportation world.
