Chevy Puts A Halt On 2018 Corvette Orders Until December Over Plant Upgrades
‘Private Offer’ deals on 2017 model year ‘Vettes are reportedly being sent out to select individuals.
If you're in the market for a brand new model of America's Sports Car, you may need to wait a few more months. Cars Direct reports that Chevy is putting a hold on all orders for 2018 model year Corvettes until September with deliveries expected to resume sometime early December, late November if we're lucky.
This is due to production at GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky facility being paused for the next 3 months for plant upgrades—namely, "to finish construction of a new, state-of-the-art paint shop," if Chevy spokesperson Ron Kiino is to be believed. The tin-foil-hatted among you may read that as code for "to prepare the assembly line for the new, mid-engined Corvette," but that's a rumor we cannot confirm nor deny.
If you truly are in the market for a new Stingray, we know what you're thinking: Will this cutoff in supply also halt the perennial discounts the Corvette's been enjoying? Not necessarily, says Cars Direct. The publication reports that Chevy has been sending out unpublicized, "Private Offer" deals on mainly 2017 model 'Vettes already sitting on dealer lots to select, prospective owners. Coming in the form of a code sent through snail or e-mail, the discount reportedly takes $3,000 off "most versions of the 2017 Corvette" or potentially up to $5,000 off if one opts for a Grand Sport or Z06 equipped with carbon ceramic brakes.
