Scott Eastwood Joins Charlize Theron in Fast 8
The Fast family grows by one.
Another day, another cast addition to the forthcoming Fast 8. Last week, Charlize Theron, signed on to be the film's antagonist. Today, Scott Eastwood, son of Clint and an open-shirt yachtsman of the first degree, announced his addition to the franchise's roster with a simple tweet: "#F8."
Eastwood will join the rest of the Fast family, including Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez. F. Gary Gray will be taking over the directing reins for the film, which is slated for release on April 14, 2017. Eastwood will play the protege to Kurt Russel's federal agent character, Mr. Nobody. That news, courtesy of a Universal tweet, also serves to confirm Russel's return to the still-untitled octoquel.
The plot is still largely under wraps, though alleged shooting locations are ambitious and intriguing. Rumors of Iceland, New York City and Cuba are swirling about. It's a nice mix, though it'd be hard to rocket the likes of a Lykan Hypersport through umpteen high rises in Havana or the volcanic fields of Iceland.
Eastwood, whose film credits are stacking up faster than a sub-ten quarter mile, may owe some of those appearances to his director father—Flags of Our Father, Invictus and Gran Torino among them—but is quick to note there's no nepotism at play. Clint didn't select his son for American Sniper nor J. Edgar, and treated him like every other rejected actor: "You don’t get a phone call,” Eastwood said. “It’s nothing personal.”
