The Evolution of Automotive Interior Spaces
Vehicle interior improvements are one of the next battlegrounds for car sales.
Wired did an article recently on how and why the automotive interior space has been evolving the way it has. Over the past 10 years, we have seen an amazing change in quality and diversity in materials from many manufacturers—including some things that would surprise many shoppers.
One driving factor towards improvement in the space is that vehicle exterior design is constrained due to safety requirements and aerodynamic limitations. Since drivers are spending some much time in vehicles nowadays, the interior space is much more important than before.
Interior space will continue to evolve as vehicles move closer to autonomy; however, until that day arrives there is a massive gap between manufacturers in this department. While many vehicles tend to look similar outside the attention to detail on the inside can make or break an experience for a car owner. In the Wired article, the author said that shoppers expect more.
The next generation of vehicles will determine which manufactures have led the charge and those that have been left behind. Only time will tell...but we hope they look like the two cars here.
