PistonHeads have pitted the new 991.2 Turbo S against the new Aston Martin DB11. The 911 has always had its fastest model feature forced induction, but Aston Martin is new to turbos. In order to answer the question of which manufacturer does turbocharging a high-end GT car better, PistonHeads put them up against each other in the video below. It’s cute that Aston Martin has transitioned away from massive naturally aspirated V12s in their highest performance Grand Touring coupes, opting instead for massive turbocharged V12s. The Aston has 5.2 liters of driving force while the Porsche makes similar power with a mere three-point-eight. What’s more, the 911 Turbo S also shoots to sixty in less time thanks to its four-driven-wheels. This is teutonic technical mastry versus the British pomp and circumstance. The DB11 might be more attention grabbing in the looks it gets and the sounds it makes, but the Porsche is the ostensibly better car. 

In the video, it’s interesting that they spend far more time on the Aston Martin than on the Porsche, perhaps it’s due to the fact that they are Brits themselves. Perhaps the Porsche immediately tells you what it is and what its about, while the Aston requires a more nuanced conversation. I’m not sure that you can really go wrong with either of these, as I’m a Porsche fanatic, but a bit of an Aston apologist at the same time. It really comes down to what you prefer out of a car. Do you want it to shout your arrival, or do you want to arrive quicker and in relative inauspiciousness?
