The Next Jeep Wrangler Stands By the Manual Transmission and the Cadillac ATS Drops the Base Engine: The Evening Rush
Plus, a military-inspired grooming kit and the perfect shirt for the 4th of July.
The Evening Rush is your daily roundup of auto, gear, and lifestyle news, all in one place. Less time searching, more time driving. Motor on.
Cadillac will be dropping the base engine on the 2017 ATS in hopes of boosting struggling sales. The ATS will now come standard with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 272-hp, as well as additional interior luxuries, like a Bose stereo system and an 8-inch display. When all is said and done, the new starting price will jump to $35,590—however, higher trim levels will actually see a small decrease in price.
If we didn’t already love the Camaro ZL1, the recently-revealed line lock feature means we really do now. The feature lets owners absolutely destroy a set of tires without any driving skill whatsoever. GM added the feature as a way to heat up the 640-hp track monster before it does a quarter-mile run, but we're sure most drivers will use it to lay down rubber by the Dairy Queen.
Jeep lovers, relax—spy shots have confirmed the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will offer a manual transmission. Although the demand for the stick shift has dropped drastically over the years, Jeep will continue to produce it for those loyal offroaders who want the holy combination of a diesel engine and a manual transmission.

Buying someone a “grooming kit” is one of the least manly things you can do. So to combat that, why not buy one that comes in a metal ammo case with a hatchet and other manly products? You know, just in case you need to chop some wood while shaving. Seriously, the Duke Cannon U.S. Military Field Grooming Kit is composed of quality products that will never let you down and will leave you wanting to jump right into a regimen of pushups after your shave. Oorah.
Today’s beer pick brings us to Community Beer Works in Buffalo, New York. Brewing daily in their 1.5-barrel (47 gallon) brew system, this microbrewery's output is limited—but their quality belies those restrictions. Constantly churning out hoppy beer, we expect Community Beer Works will move to a bigger barrel system soon. If you are able to find it on tap, we recommend you try a pint of That IPA.
