I’ve been testing an Escort radar detector for the last three weeks. I’ll be honest. The whole idea of a device intended to help you break the law seems a little weird to me. Over the year, I’ve interviewed several people at the companies that make these. None of them seem to be criminal masterminds bent on crushing the tyranny of speed limit enforcement. Their real interest is keeping normal drivers, who may speed occasionally or even unknowingly, from getting a ticket that will increase their insurance premiums and can even effect their ability to get a job. Those are the people these radar detector and scanner deals are for.
I will have a review coming up on the Escort Max4 I’m testing in a couple of weeks. Spoiler Alert: It’s a great piece of electronics. The big “however” here is that in three weeks it’s been in my car, I haven’t driven past a single cop on the side of the road. The good thing is, it isn’t constantly screaming at me as I drive past every store with automatic doors or in slow traffic because every car around me has parking sensors. I may have at least a short road trip coming up. I may get to see how this works out where I’m more likely to encounter a State Trooper with radar.
From experience, I know that people have major-league-sportsball-levels of brand loyalty when it comes to radar detectors. I’ve tried to include a variety, but not all brands are on sale right now. Still, this Escort MAX 360 MKII radar and laser detector for $499.99 is $50 off, which should appeal to everyone. But, if you want a Valentine One V1 Gen 2, it’s currently 150 bucks off. If you’re more for going old-school with a scanner, get this Uniden BearTracker 885 hybrid CB radio for $387.15. The bonus being you can also talk to truckers. Lastly, there’s some insurance, just in case you do get a ticket.
