Two of the most popular things on The Garage last year were reviews of a radar detector from Escort and a dash cam from Garmin. Clearly, you all see the value in additional protection. Well, that, or you can’t stay our of trouble. I’m not here to judge, though. I’ve looked around online and found the best deals on both radar detectors and dash cams. So, if you still haven’t pulled the trigger, now’s a good time.
Starting with the Escort – MAX 360c MKII Radar/Laser Detector and Direct Wire Smartcord for $589.98. This uses the latest in hardware from Escort. The bundle includes a kit to hardwire your new radar detector into your car, which honestly, is always one of my biggest complaints. If you want to spend a little less and you’re OK with a few more false alerts, then the Escort – MAX 360 MKII Radar and Laser Detector for $515.99 is a winner. It’ll will give you pretty close to the same results in terms of sensitivity, but maybe not quite the same level of filtering.
There’s a good selection of dash cams on sale right now. I reviewed the first on the list back in July. The THINKWARE – U3000 4K UHD Dash Cam, Built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and Radar for $379.99. Besides recording in 4K, it also provides some ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features if that’s something you’d like to add to your car.
The two Cobra dashcams that are down there will be getting reviews in the near future—watch this space as they say. I also included the Garmin Dash Cam 67W, for $189.95. The old Mini 2 is still one of my favorites, but is getting harder to find. Lastly, there’s a GPS tracker. This has a rechargeable battery that lasts a year, although it can be wired into your car. It sticks on with a magnet. You’ll totally feel like James Bond slapping it to the sheet metal somewhere on your own Aston Martin. Or Toyota, whatever you drive.
