A three-month-old kitten was thrown out of a car window in rush hour traffic in Delray Beach, Florida, on July 21 and animal control is looking for the person behind the ordeal, according to the Palm Beach Post.

The cat, now named Summer, was tossed out of a car on the northbound ramp at Atlantic Avenue on Interstate 95. Luckily for the feline, she was rescued by an animal lover who stopped traffic to save her. When Summer was brought to the clinic, it was discovered she had a broken femur and required surgery.

There’s been an outpouring of support for Summer from the local community. People have been calling in donations to cover the surgery for the abused animal and any extra funds will go to the clinic performing the procedure.

Summer is expected to make a full recovery and the good samaritan who rescued the cat is adopting her after she’s all fixed up.

Shockingly, throwing animals out the window is kind of a common thing in Palm Beach County. “We see this more than we would like. At least 3-4 times a year we get calls about someone throwing animals out of moving cars,” Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control director Diane Suave told the Palm Beach Post.

If you happen to live in the greater Palm Beach area and happen to have any information that could lead to bringing the animal abusing motorist to justice, you can call Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS (8477) or Animal Care and Control at 561-233-1200, extension 0. The vehicle make and model and license number in question are unknown.

If caught, the perpetrator will be turned over to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and could face felony charges under the Florida animal abuse statute.
