Update: The car has been recovered and is now in storage at a friend’s house to throw thieves off the trail. The only damage was to the underside of the dashboard, which was forcibly pried back to hotwire the car.

My 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo has disappeared from outside my house without a trace. I’m trying to get the word out in the hope that my first car can be recovered safely.

It was stolen from its (legal) street parking spot outside of my house in Portland, Oregon some time within the last 36 hours. I last drove it on Sunday and had eyes on it Monday morning, but I work from home and hadn’t checked on it again until now. Maybe that sound I thought was a WRX last night was someone stalking off with it.

The car is white, has T-tops, and lots of stickers on the front lip, rear bumper, and back window. It has almost 200,000 miles, a blue interior, and an engine with a loud vent-to-atmosphere blowoff valve. The VIN is JT2SW22N1M0017416, and the Oregon license plate is CB51168. I’m waiting for an officer to arrive now to file a report.

My MR2 was my first car, and I planned to keep it forever. If you see it in person, or maybe even popping up on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, please contact me immediately at james@thedrive.com.
