Toyota Reveals 2018 RAV4 Adventure at Chicago
We’re okay with another off-road capable crossover.
This year, manufacturers are using the Chicago Auto Show to display a bit of their fun side. We've already seen Volkswagen and their Atlas Weekend Concept as well as Toyota's newest TRD Sport Packages debut, giving us the adventure-mobiles everyone is asking for. Toyota continues on that trend with the 2018 RAV4 Adventure, their greatest attempt at a rugged crossover yet (we all know the 4Runner has grown out of that term by now).
The first thing you notice about the RAV4 Adventure is its tough appearance. It's adorned with unique accents and badging both inside and out, letting you know that it's not the standard grocery-getter that you see everywhere but off-road. With several color options including Magnetic Gray Metallic, Silver Sky Metallic, Super White, Ruby Flare Pearl, and Black, you can have it almost any way you want it. Fender flares, body armor, and roof rails also contribute to the RAV4 Adventure's sturdy theme.
Not only does it look more capable, it seems to be able to prove its worth on the trail as well. While front wheel drive comes standard, Toyota does offer a torque-vectoring all wheel drive system to make sure that each tire is getting the needed power for ultimate traction. The RAV4 Adventure also features 18-inch black alloy wheels mounted with 235/55R18 tires which should help you maneuver around some rough terrain, too. An available Tow Prep Package means you get an upgraded radiator and trans cooler to keep temperatures down with an extra load behind you. Raised suspension gives you the ground clearance needed to scale rocky and mud covered ground, rounding out the vehicle's exterior appearance and off-road focus.
The RAV4 Adventure's interior is designed to support a rugged lifestyle. The cabin is laden with tough materials to carry around camping and hiking gear with a lined cargo area and all weather floor mats, both of which receive an Adventure logo. Power outlets can be found throughout as well, making things easily accessible to boot.
Expect to see the 2018 RAV4 Adventure for sale this September. Toyota VP Bill Fay says it should cost an additional $1,000 give or take, making it an affordable extra for many.
