Watch Jacky Ickx Flog His Old 956 & 936 At Fuji Speedway
The legendary Belgian driver gets back in his legendary German cars on a legendary Japanese circuit.
"It's easy to win when you have the right car", says the Le Mans winning Porsche legend Ickx before he steps aboard the cars that helped him to win. During the Porsche Experience Day at Fuji Speedway, attendees were treated to the pleasure of watching Jackie work his magic behind the wheel of the 956 and 936 that he raced at Le Mans decades earlier. He was hellaciously fast in his day, and continues to be quite quick today. When you think back on Porsche's motorsport history, Jacky is inextricably linked with the brand. Listening to him speak, you can see why he fit in well. Enthusiasm has always been a part of the Porsche story.
Very few of us can imagine what it was like to race for one of the world's leading sports car manufacturers in the 1970s and 1980s, or to win Le Mans six times overall, which is what makes Jacky's short talk here all the more exciting to watch. This video is worth watching for that reason alone. Throw in some gorgeous visuals and a couple awesome cars, and it should move to the top of your "to do" list. It's just a few minutes long, but it's an emotional journey that helps explain why we're enthusiastic about Porsche as a brand.
They just don't make cars like the 936 or 956 anymore, and they sure don't make 'em like Ickx.
