Please, Look at Quintessential Bond Girl Ursula Andress Playing in the Snow
On the eve of Spectre, a look back at a distant moment in Bond lore.
Aside from being one of the great names in acting, Ursula Andress is tied—with beige bikini string—to Bond. In 1962’s Dr. No, Andress slunk out of the Pacific Ocean, gave her blonde hair a squeeze and sauntered ashore. Her conches were dirty, so she cleaned them. The name? Ryder. Honey Ryder. It would be the first in a long line of ridiculous names that would reach its zenith in 1964, when Bond romanced Pussy Galore in Goldfinger. As you can glean from her name, she’s an experienced pilot.
In 1967, Andress went on to star in the Bond spoof Casino Royale. Here, absent her iconic white bikini and bundled in a coat, she plays in the snow on the last day of filming. Without faulting her performance on the beach, there’s something here to tell you that the Swiss actress belonged in a northern clime. Cheers, Ursula, and here’s to hoping we’re half as graceful during this winter’s first blizzard.
