Hey there. Devin Altieri here for Drive Wire on December 6th, 2016.
Today on Drive Wire: Up to 120 BMWs have been damaged in a train derailment in South Carolina.
The two Norfolk Southern locomotives were transporting the cars from the BMW plant in Spartanburg to the Port of Charleston to be exported. Overall, a dozen automobile freight cars were involved, each carrying 10 of the german cars.
At the moment, the Spartanburg facility, BMWs only U.S. plant, exclusively manufactures X-series crossovers, so only X3, X4, X5 and X6 models were damaged in the accident.
While the cause of the crash is unknown, luckily, neither of the two Norfolk Southern employees were injured when the train derailed.
That’s it for Drive Wire on December 6th, 2016. I’m Devin Altieri; thanks for watching, and please check out The Drive for more on the big stories from the transportation world.
