The New LEAF has a higher range, autonomous driving tech, and a dynamic new design

New Nissan LEAF Chinese Debut at Guangzhou Auto Show

Recently China passed the U.S. as the largest auto market in the world. One thing about China that stands out from the U.S. is its affinity for electric vehicles. Where the U.S. offers incentives such as tax credits, the Chinese just impose mandates on auto manufacturers. That’s leading to a huge market for electric vehicles.

Jumping into the fray to fulfill some of that demand is Nissan. Stateside we’re all familiar with the Nissan LEAF, its all-electric, zero-emission offering. Nissan is expecting to sell 1.5 million total cars in China this year. For next year, Nissan is debuting an all-new LEAF at the 15th annual Guangzhou auto show. It is also showing off the Vmotion 2.0 concept car and the Venucia T70. The Venucia is part of Nissan’s joint venture with Chinese company Dongfeng Venucia Motor Co.

The new LEAF premiered recently in Japan. It offers a greater range, advanced autonomous driving technologies, and a dynamic new design. It comes standard with Nissan’s ProPILOT autonomous driving technology, ProPILOT Park, and e-Pedal.

Speaking on the LEAF and the Chinese partnership Jun Seki, president of Dongfeng Motor Co, senior vice president of Nissan and chairman of the Nissan China Management Committee, said, "With the strong and steady growth of Nissan's joint venture companies in China, Nissan China has achieved accumulative growth in the past 10 months, and we are set to increase our annual sales target to 1.5 million vehicles. We will continue offering innovative quality products for our Chinese customers who want an exciting, safe and intelligent driving experience."

The Nissan LEAF is already the best-selling EV in the world with 300,000 units sold worldwide in 49 countries. They’ve driven over 2.1 billion miles without any critical battery incidents. Nissan is proud of its 84 years in business and believes that experience gives them a leg up on any competition. Now if it could just make it look a little sportier.
