Mercedes Benz’ Digital Light Headlamps Are Genuinely Cool
But does the car fly?
As we've established before, Mercedes' new E-Class is intuitive and intelligent to an astonishingly high degree. Superior comfort is a given, but the car's safety technology is truly on another level. In the event of an unavoidable crash, the car's speakers play a stream of "pink noise", protecting your ears and brain from harmful noises upon impact. Driver aids focus on keeping you and your passengers safe with features like top-of-the-line Collision Prevention and Car-to-x Communication, among others. One of the car's newest tech bits, named Digital Lighting, is truly spectacular.
This is one complex piece of equipment. The headlamp is broken down into a collection of lenses and lights, allowing for adaptive illumination on the road. A bundle of 84 LED chips provide full flexibility of light emission. These lights can change independent from one another, reducing glare towards oncoming traffic as well as wet road conditions and traffic signs. The intelligence behind them recognizes its surroundings, providing the clearest and fullest field of vision possible. This not only improves the car's overall safety, it also reduces strain on the driver's eyes, relaxing and enabling them to take full advantage of the plethora of luxury features that the E-Class offers.
Digital Light is another truly innovative feature for Mercedes' heavy hitter. It is an industry first that I can imagine will work its way throughout the rest of the executive-class. Mercedes continues to generate buzz in terms of smart technology, developing something new every time we turn a corner. The E-Class punches outside of its weight class, providing functionalities that not even $500,000 heavy-hitting luxury sedans offer. If they can continue on with this trend, the name "Mercedes" will rightfully and once again be synonymous with luxury. Who would have known they'd be capable of something so smart? Oh, wait. That's right. Everyone knew that.
