Indian Motorcycles has a new way to get more power, more torque, and more attitude from your 111 cubic-inch Thunder Stroke V-twin. The new 116 ci Stage 3 Big Bore Kit turns up the performance on Indian’s big bikes like the Chief, Chieftain, Springfield, and Roadmaster.

By boring out the engine to 116 ci, Indian claims this $1,999 (plus installation) option results in 15 percent more torque and 20 percent more horsepower. That’s pretty significant, especially if combined with the existing Stage 1 air cleaner and exhaust upgrades or the Stage 2 performance camshaft upgrade.

“The bagger landscape is seeing more and more emphasis on performance, with more riders looking to get on the throttle and carve corners as they would on smaller bikes, and that’s exactly what the Stage 3 Kit is about,” said Derek Meyer, Sr. Category Manager of Indian Motorcycle Accessories. “Indian’s roots are in performance, innovation and pushing boundaries, and this 116-kit is but one of a variety of new products riders will see from us moving forward, grounded in and driven by Indian’s performance DNA.”

Heavyweight motorcycles often get a bad rap for lacking in performance compared to smaller, more nimble bikes with similar power and torque numbers. The Thunder Stroke 111 is already a strong, responsive engine that’s great for long-distance cruising. Boring it out for more power and torque should make it as proficient in the canyons as it is on the highway.

The Indian 116 ci Stage 3 Big Bore Kit for the Thunder Stroke 111 will be available in December.
