The upcoming video game [*Need For Speed Payback*](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/10122/need-for-speed-back-for-2017-reintroduces-ability-to-pause-game>) promises to bring in-game car customization back to the present. A new trailer released Wednesday shows heavily modified cars for various applications from drag racing to off-roading. One of the cars most prominently featured in the new trailer is a [Datsun 240Z](<https://www.thedrive.com/vintage/1918/why-you-need-to-buy-a-datsun-240z>) outfitted for drag racing with a wheelie bar, fat rear tires, and a blower.

Every individual part on the exterior of the car is customizable to make your virtual car one of a kind. Of course, there are also mechanical modifications to improve performance. Other modified examples we see in the trailer include a first-generation Ford Mustang, a [Jaguar F-Type](<https://www.thedrive.com/new-cars/12497/2017-jaguar-f-type-svr-convertible-review-awd-jag-shows-its-claws>), and a Volkswagen Baja Bug outfitted for serious off-roading.

One of the coolest features shown in the trailer is the presence of barn finds. You can find a car rodding in a field somewhere, save it, and restore it however you’d like. A restoration like this would be much cheaper than the real deal, so if you want a project without spending a ton of time and money, this game could be for you. Although, you might end up spending a lot of time on this game anyway.

The trailer closes with the line “play your way, win your way.” It sounds like the *Need for Speed* series is taking a page out of the [*Project Cars*](<https://www.thedrive.com/article/9747/theres-a-project-cars-video-game-sequel-on-the-way>) video games’ book. As its name implies, those games are heavy on customization and they’ve proven to be quite popular.
