# How Mega Is the Megaship Docked at Port of L.A.?

This weekend, the Port of Los Angeles [welcomed the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin](<https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Massive-Cargo-Ship-Arrives-at-Port-of-Los-Angeles--363647211.html>). It’s the largest container ship to ever dock in North America, an 18,000-TEU leviathan that begs for comparative hyperbole. CMA-CGM has happily obliged. According to French shipping company’s website, the Benjamin Franklin’s maximum load capacity represents the volume of 235 Olympic pools. She’s [longer than the Empire State Building is tall](<https://www.cma-cgm.com/news/1030/the-cma-cgm-benjamin-franklin-exceptional-dimensions-for-the-largest-vessel-ever-to-call-at-a-u-s-port>), and wider than a football field. Which is freakin’ insane.
