This Is the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro
The Valkyrie isn’t even out yet, and Aston Martin is already making a faster version.
We already know that the Aston Martin's Valkyrie hypercar, developed in coordination with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, will put out 1,130 horsepower, and is equipped with seats made from a scan of each owner's own physiology. Road & Track reported back in June that the Valkyrie would receive a faster, track-only sibling, intended to be as fast as a modern LMP1 endurance racer, and Thursday, Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing revealed said sibling in tandem: The Valkyrie AMR Pro. Aston Martin launched its high-performance AMR subsidiary with the Vantage AMR back in June, which was followed by the Vulcan AMR Pro in July.
Weight will be shaved from the car by replacing glass windows with polycarbonate, thinner bodywork panels, and the stripping of creature comforts, such as the heater and infotainment. The power output of the Valkyrie AMR Pro is said to exceed that of the road car, due to the elimination of emissions control systems and a retune to account for these changes, but no specific figures have been released. Its brakes are described as "Formula 1-inspired" carbon-carbon units, capable of handling the physics-bending performance of the car. It will utilize 18-inch wheels, smaller than that of the road car, to permit the use of Michelin racing slicks similar to those used by the LMP1 cars it is intended to match.
Strangely enough, FIA WEC is evaluating a regulation change to make LMP1 cars look more like road cars. While WEC does not seek to turn LMP1 into a hypercar racing series, citing cost concerns, the changes made to the Valkyrie AMR Pro could put it within a shout of WEC homologation, were this proposed set of regulations to be implemented.
The Valkyrie's only contemporary in the realm of modern hypercars that can trace a direct lineage to Formula 1 is Mercedes' Project One, which is powered by an engine derived from the company's highly successful Formula 1 program.
A mere 25 examples of the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be built, all of which have been sold, and delivery is expected in 2020.
