Mitsubishi is getting its fresh start in the American market with the new Outlander Sport. The decision to focus on CUVs and SUVs will hopefully lead to improved sales for the manufacturer, a problem that they've been facing for the last several years. The growing large vehicle market in the U.S. demands attention from all automakers, and Mitsubishi plans to hatch some success with this utility vehicle.

The Limited Edition trim offers several improvements over its entry level trim stable mate. The sporty appearance is made obvious by a splash of exterior details including black door mirrors, HID headlamps, and 18-inch black wheels, among others. Mitsubishi hopes that these unique details will be enough to add some hefty value to the Outlander Sport.

Don Swearingen, Mitsubishi's executive vice president and chief operating officer, said recently in a statement "As the brand sales leader, Outlander Sport does an exemplary job of offering consumers unmatched value at an attractive price ... We’ve now taken that approach one step further by integrating additional standard equipment and technology into the Limited Edition at a price point that is unprecedented within the broader CUV segment.”

The interior receives a bit of special treatment as well. The black fabric seats are complimented by red accent stitching, keeping the "Sport" theme evident. Aluminum pedals are also put in place to encourage spirited driving, or at least as much as you can in a CUV with a high center of gravity. Lastly, the infotainment system is treated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, an especially attractive feature for young buyers.

All of this rings up to a genuinely cheap $21,995. Mitsubishi has a reputation for selling some seriously affordable vehicles, and the Outlander Sport Limited Edition is no different. It aims at a demographic that wants fun and lighthearted features while still remaining practical, a group that's sure to help the manufacturer's efforts towards higher sales. It will be interesting to see how it keeps up with other models in its class.
