While other SUVs like Lamborghini’s new Urus will likely get all the attention, there’s another popular SUV about to hit showrooms. Honda announced that the 2018 Honda Pilot will go on sale Dec. 5 with a starting retail price of $30,900 including a $975 destination and handling fee. The Honda Pilot has been an annual recipient of awards, often times being named one of the best buys and best cars for families.

This year’s model comes with three rows of seating and is powered by a 3.5-liter, direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine with variable cylinder management, capable of pushing out 280 horsepower with 262 pound-feet of torque. The Pilot can be had with either a six-speed or a nine-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain combo can pump out up to 27 miles per gallon on the highway for the two-wheel-drive models or up to 26 miles per gallon for the all-wheel-drive variant.

The Pilot is available in five different trim packages, four with a two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variant version. Prices vary from $30,900 for the LX in two-wheel-drive all the way up to $47,470 for the pimped-out Elite all-wheel-drive unit. That’s right, I just said you could pimp-out your Honda Pilot with the Elite trim which offers the Honda Sensing safety suite, multi-angle rearview camera, and blind spot information with rear cross traffic monitor. Standard across all trim levels is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.

The Honda Sensing safety suite includes a host of driver-assist technologies. Among these is the collision mitigation braking system with forward collision warning, lane keeping assist system, adaptive cruise control, and road departure mitigation with lane departure warning.

Despite the Honda logo, the Pilot and its V6 engine are both put together exclusively here in the U.S. of A. Using a mix of domestic and globally-sourced parts the Pilot stamped out in the Honda plant in Lincoln, Alabama.
