Ford's U.S. sales climbed nearly 7 percent in November, fueled by solid fleet sales and advances for its utility vehicles and trucks.

Friday, the automaker reported its third straight monthly sales gain of 6 percent or more, aided by the sale of 72,769 F-series pickup trucks, up 1 percent from November 2016. The F-series sales greatly outperformed the all Ford and Lincoln brand passengers cars, which accounted for some 45,000 sales collectively.

Still, Ford tallied a 5.2 percent increase in sales of its Ford brand passenger cars, with sales of the Focus leaping 44.9 percent. Ford said Explorer sales rose 25 percent, the best for the SUV in more than a dozen years.

Sales of Ford's Edge crossover increased 22.5 percent and Explorer SUV sales rose 24.8 percent, the company said.

“Strong customer demand for MotorTrend’s new Truck of the Year drove F-Series sales past the 70,000 mark last month, a November number achieved just three other times in history," Mark LaNeve, Ford's vice president, U.S. marketing, sales and service, said in a news release. "In addition, Ford brand SUVs continued their outstanding performance with sales up 13 percent for their best November since 2000.”

While new-car prices hit record highs in November, consumers did not appear to be taken aback by bigger sticker costs and longer terms when he came to buying SUVs, analysts said. And, bargains could be found as dealerships tried to clear out 2017-model year inventory.

Industrywide, spending on incentives increased by $300 to $400 per vehicle in November, LaNeve reportedly told analysts in a conference call. “From a discipline standpoint, even though it’s moved up, transaction prices moved up along with it.”
