I’m sure we’ve all been frustrated with our cars at one point or another. You may bang on the roof or kick a tire out of angst. A woman in an upscale northwest suburb of Chicago took it to another level. Like, crimes against humanity war tribunal level.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Julie Gagne, 47, of Barrington, IL took a flamethrower to her 2016 Infiniti QX70 around 10:30pm on November 10th. Police say the X15 Flamethrower holds about three gallons of fuel and napalm, giving it enough juice to shoot flames up to fifty feet. They say Gagne purchased the flamethrower online for a little over $1,600. No word on whether or not she got free shipping but I would love to see the rest of her browsing history. I’m thinking an autographed photo of Chemical Ali.

After torching the SUV, Gagne reported the car stolen with police in nearby Schaumburg but eventually retracted the report and turned herself in. She appeared in court last week charged of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report and Class 2 felony arson. Her bond was set at $100,000. She posted bond and was released from policy custody.

Now, I’m no expert on destroying vehicles but I’m pretty sure she could have found a much cheaper way to get rid of her car. I mean, she is just outside of Chicago. Various media outlets tried reaching out to Gagne for comment to no avail. The car was only registered to her so you can rule out a revenge torching as the motive behind the madness.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that courtroom as Gagne tries to explain why she even owns a personal flamethrower, let alone why should would torch her car. Maybe she was looking for a new way to get the snow off in a hurry before work.
