Turner Motorsport is a both a tuner shop and a race team founded by Will Turner located in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The race team participates in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship driving BMWs. The tuner shop also specializes in BMWs. If you follow Turner Motorsports or Will Turner you will know that they bleed BMW, but it is understandable that they need to put their BMWs aside to race in the most grueling off road race in the world - the Baja 1000.

Turner Motorsport sent out a press release stating some of its drivers will be returning to the Baja 1000 in a few days. If you do not know, the Baja 1000 is a more than 1,100-mile off-road race that takes place on Mexico's Baja California Peninsula. The race begins in Ensenada, Mexico on Nov. 16 and ends in La Paz, Mexico.

This is not Turner Motorsport's first time attending the Baja 1000. Drivers Michael Marsal, Markus Palttala, Jay Baier, and Turner Motorsport owner Will Turner attended the 2016 race. They competed in the Baja Challenge class which loops around from Ensenada, Mexico to El Rosarito, Mexico. They finished fourth, so they want to return to that podium.

For 2017, Turner Motorsport is adding two more drivers to help carry the load, Oskar Slingerland and James Rossiter. The team is going to compete in the BC-6 Baja Challenge Class.

Turner Motorsport owner Will Turner had this to say in the press release: "I have done a lot of road racing and been fairly successful at it...Off-road racing is totally different, sure it a race but that’s about all of the similarities. Imagine yourself in the middle of a desert, at night, on terrain that you have never seen before, trying to drive faster than the 50 or 60 competitors that might be directly on your tail all while not even realizing that you're inches away from a 200 foot cliff to your right...just amazing!"

According to the press release, the Turner Motorsport-backed teams strategy is to start the race with Michael Marsal and Markus Palttala then hand off to Oskar Slingerland and James Rossiter. Jay Baier and Will Turner will complete the race to the end.

I say they should have pulled a Bill Caswell and took a BMW, cut it apart, and made some Turner Motorsport BMW-monster.

Be sure to follow Turner Motorsport to see how they make out in the race. You can watch the live stream of the 50th Annual SCORE Baja 1000 at score-international.com which begins Thursday, Nov. 16.
