It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas for 3,300 lucky customers on Dodge’s “Nice” list. Dodge announced that it started shipping the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Friday. The much-anticipated 840 horsepower Demon is the industry’s first purpose-built street-legal production drag car. Fresh out of the showroom the Demon runs the quarter-mile in a face-melting 9.65 seconds at 140 mph. Dodge claims a zero to 60 time of 2.3 seconds. We’re talking about wheelie hops in a production car.

Each of the 3,000 U.S. and 300 Canadian customers taking delivery will receive a leather-bound track tech manual written by the editors of Hot Rod magazine. They can also get the Demon Authentication Package which includes a carbon-fiber authenticity card and individual build sheets packaged in a hermetically sealed sleeve. The price for this package, a whopping U.S. $1.

But wait…there’s more! For another buck, owners can have a personalized Demon Crate which includes everything you need to unleash the full potential of all that power. The crate adds a performance tune, a switch for high-octane, performance air filter, passenger mirror removal plate, skinny drag front wheels, a jack, impact wrench, torque wrench, tire pressure gauge, fender cover and tool bag. I can’t image too many owners not dropping the loose change for this package.

Speaking on the monumental occasion of the first units shipping, Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars for Dodge/SRT, Chrysler and FIAT at FCA North America said, “The people who bought a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are performance enthusiasts to the core, and having a custom car with accessories that improve overall performance is critical. With that passion for both performance and their new limited-production Demon in mind, we’ve pulled together a collection of materials designed to help them learn about, track, protect and maintain the newest member of the family. These accessories are designed to build on the exclusivity and future collectability of this limited-production car.”

Personally, I think the Demon is going to be a smash hit with great resale value. Factory muscle always demands top dollar. And when these owners start wrapping these things around trees like Vipers, Vette’s and Mustangs, the supply dip will keep values up. Good luck with the car insurance premiums.
