Popular RV Destinations in El Paso

Magoffin Home State Historic Site

Visit this stunning adobe home and experience what life was like for a multicultural family living in El Paso during the expansion of the west. Joseph Magoffin built the home in 1875 and was a civic leader, politician, and pioneer.

The home has 19 rooms and is furnished with the family’s original belongings. It’s El Paso’s only historic house museum and gives you a perfect example of what life and houses traditionally looked like.

Tours are self-guided, so feel free to take your time as you wander the house. However, you’ll want to call ahead and reserve your visit time. Street parking is available across the street from the site, making it easy to visit.

El Paso Mission Trail

This nine-mile stretch of road crosses the Mission Valley and is named after the three missions that date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. You’ll visit the Ysleta Mission, Socorro Mission, and San Elizario Chapel. Each features stunning architecture and a rich blending of Spanish, Mexican, and Native American cultures.

Along the way, you’ll be able to visit quirky shops, art galleries full of local creations, and restaurants serving up mouth-watering delicacies. This is not a quick visit, so plan for at least an entire day to make your way through each of the missions and other sites along the way.

Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site

Spend the day outside as you hike your way through the trails and admire the ancient rock imagery. There are guided and self-guided tours available. Only 70 people are allowed into the park to do the self-guided tour each day.

The guided tours can be booked ahead of time and take you to places the self-guided option doesn’t allow. As you walk through the park, you’ll view pictographs and petroglyphs that depict the life and conflict of three cultures that spanned 1,500 years. Plan ahead and reserve one of the on-site campsites.

There are water and electric hookups available. The grounds can accommodate drive lengths from 35 to 70 feet.

Events and Entertainment in El Paso

Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Head to downtown and participate in several drop-in activities. Get involved in the community and walk in the parade of Alebrijes. There are also multiple stages hosting performances throughout the evening.

Bring the whole family and take a stroll through downtown as you admire the art and check out the booths at the farmers market. If you do nothing else, be sure to check out the parade. It features larger-than-life marionettes that are created by the Colectivo Ultima Hora.

You’ll also get to see dancers, percussion players, catrinas, mojigangas, and Calavera masks. This is a nighttime event, so plan to park your RV somewhere nearby that allows you to stay overnight.

Way Out West Fest

This regional fair is more than just a music festival. Sure, it features plenty of musical talent and an outdoor dance floor. It’s perfect for practicing your two-step or kicking back in a lawn chair. But there’s so much more to do and see.

You can also take a stroll through the several retail and craft vendors. Or you can munch on the border food favorites while sipping on a cold beverage.

In addition to concerts, there’s also a “Quest for the Best” Margarita contest and a Chili Challenge. This is your chance to taste some of the best food and drinks in Texas. This is an evening and nighttime event, so it’s probably best to leave the kiddos at the RV for this one.

Chalk the Block

What started as a small one-day sidewalk chalk art competition has turned into a three-day event that welcomes 40,000 people. About 200 local and international artists gather for this event. They represent all disciplines of art for a diverse and fun atmosphere and display.

This event is great for families and features interactive installations. There are also live bands, dances, and theatrical performances to take in.

You’ll enjoy the food and drink vendors that will keep you satiated while enjoying all of the art. Best of all, the event is free to attend, making it both fun and affordable.
