Graceland

Head to Memphis and visit the home of the King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Presley’s home is one of the most famous in the world, and it’s worth a trip whether you’re a die-hard fan or just curious about the late crooner’s lifestyle.

Take a tour of his historic mansion, and you’ll get a glimpse into how one of the most famous men in rock and roll lived. Nothing about the place has changed since his passing in 1977.

Make sure to head over to the warehouse after the tour to see several exhibits. There’s memorabilia, costumes, and the story of Presley’s rise to fame. Don’t miss his collection of aircraft and cars while you’re there.

There’s an RV park and campground on site, which makes visiting even easier. There are sites with full hookups, a bathhouse, laundry, and plenty of trails. You’ll also enjoy free Wi-Fi during your stay.

Dollywood

Dolly Parton isn’t just a famous country singer; she’s also the namesake behind Tennessee’s most popular ticketed attraction. This mountain attraction is a mix between theme park fun and folksy traditional crafts and entertainment.

There are 40 different rides for you and your family to enjoy. You’ll find everything from roller coasters to a steam train that encircles the park.

If you want to plan an extra-special trip, then schedule it around the park’s events and festivals. There’s the Flower and Food Festival, Summer Celebration, Thrills in the Hills, Rock the Smokies, Harvest Festival, and Smoky Mountain Christmas.

There are several ticket and meal packages available, so you’ll be able to plan the perfect trip for your family. Be sure to check out the waterpark. You can buy dual tickets, and then cool off on one of its many water slides and attractions.

Lost Sea Adventure

About 45 miles from Knoxville is the largest underground lake in the United States. You can take a boat ride along these underground waterways through large caverns and tunnels. You can choose from a variety of tours, and there’s even an overnight experience.

There’s also a bit of interesting history to this stunning natural wonder. Civil War Confederate soldiers mined the caves for its saltpeter, which they used to make gunpowder. After the Civil War, the locals turned the cavern into a party room.

When you’re done exploring the cave, check out the Old Sweetwater Village. There are plenty of shops and authentic log cabins to explore. There’s a sweets shop, glassblower, blacksmith, general store, and gem mine. Then when you’re ready for a snack, head over to the Cavern Kitchen Restaurant.

Events and Entertainment in Tennessee

Nashville Hot Chicken Festival

Hot chicken is like nothing you’ve ever had before. It isn’t buffalo chicken; it’s HOT chicken. There are three things that qualify chicken as hot chicken: bread, chicken, and pickles.

Authentic hot chicken uses one or two slices of plain white bread, and the chicken has a custom blend of spices that add heat and flavor. The key is to use a dry rub, not a wet sauce. Finally, there must be a few pickle slices to complete the meal.

Nashville’s Hot Chicken Festival has celebrated this unique way of eating chicken for over 14 years. Events start with a fire truck parade. Then the gates open, and you’re free to enjoy samples of hot chicken, live music, and cooking competitions.

The day ends with a firework display downtown.

CMA Fest

The biggest stars in country music make a pilgrimage to Nashville each June. This is where you can get your pick of the industry’s most in-demand stars for a series of nighttime concerts. There are also four full days of music from hundreds of up-and-coming artists on seven stages.

Throughout the week, several of your favorite stars host other events and activities. There are fan meet and greets, parties, charity events, and concerts. Check out Miranda Lambert’s Mutt March, or attend Darius Rucker’s Darius and Friends benefit concert. Keith Urban also hosts a Stars for Second Harvest benefit concert.

Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival

Strawberries have been a farming staple in Portland since the early 1900s. The area’s industry grew so much it became the fruit supplier for Breyers Ice Cream and several other national ice cream brands.

At the height of demand, as many as 30 railroad cars a day would leave the area. In 1941, locals created a festival that continues to this day. Today, over 30,000 people make the pilgrimage to celebrate this delicious fruit.

There are over 125 food, craft, and information vendors and several events for you to participate in, including contests, a carnival, a 5K walk/run, and plenty of kids’ activities.
