This 726-foot high dam helps contain Lake Mead. This creates the largest reservoir in the United States that supplies power to California, Nevada, and Arizona. It’s also a short 45-minute drive from Las Vegas. 

Take the tour and see the inner workings of the dam. You’ll also learn about the dam’s history, how it was built, and the personal stories of some of the workers who built it. You can walk along the top and look out over the edge, where the views are spectacular.  

Lake Tahoe 

This 22-mile long freshwater lake features sparkling, crystal blue water. Surrounding it are snow-capped mountains. The combination creates one of the most breathtaking views in Nevada. 

You can visit this lake year-round for a wide variety of activities. Head there during the summer and you can enjoy the lake’s beaches, hiking trails, and many campgrounds. If winter sports are more your thing, then you’ll love the slopes and ski resorts.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Just outside the city of Las Vegas is Red Rock Canyon. It features massive rock formations that are a rich red color. These rocks rise high above the Mojave Desert. You’ll discover geological formations and a range of diverse historical significant sites.

Lantern Fest

This will be the most beautiful festival you’ll ever attend. It happens at night in June in Reno. Thousands of people gather together to release lanterns into the night sky. The lanterns are made of paper and a center wick that you light to allow them to lift into the sky. 

There’s plenty to enjoy in addition to the lanterns. There’s a stage with live entertainment and music. You can bring the whole family to take part in face painting, s’mores, balloon artists, and so much more! 

There are also several food vendors for you to try. This makes it the perfect afternoon and evening event for your entire family. 

Air Races

Thousands of people travel to Reno each year for the air races. You can join these people and see the best of the best in the pilot profession. There are air shows, military presentations, and performances in the sky.

The Blue Angels perform every year in addition to the profession’s most respected aviation experts. There are also the actual races where 124 planes and 134 pilots compete to be the best. 

There are concessions for when you get hungry. You can also check out the static displays and Drone Zone for a bit of interactive fun. 

There’s special RV parking that you can stay at during the event. Keep in mind that there are no water or electrical hookups. Water and sanitary trucks will make daily rounds. 

River Festival 

This is arguably the biggest event in Reno. Each May, thousands gather to welcome the warm summer months with a variety of entertainment and activities. The main event is the whitewater competitions. 

There are paddleboard races, kayak races, and boatercross. You can participate or gather on the grassy knoll and cheer on the competitors. 

There are plenty of other events that take place on dry land. You could decorate your bicycle and cruise in the River Roll. Or you could satisfy your thirst in the craft beer experience or summer wine village.

All of the sites come with full hookups. There’s a beachfront-style pool that’s family-friendly and has waterfalls. There is also an adults-only pool and a spa. 

Other activities and amenities include an 18-hole putting course, fitness center, free Wi-Fi, horseshoe pits, fully-stocked convenience store, and laundry facilities.

Great Basin National Park
