There are three types of flashlights I find most helpful in the garage. A durable, skinny one that I can reach deep into an engine bay, a flat one I can stick to a car frame with a magnet, and of course, a headlamp to help me see exactly where my eyes are pointing. Coast, one of our favorite everyday-carry compact tool brands, is doing a deal on one of each of those for Amazon Prime Days this week.

I think everybody on Earth could use a [Coast PM50R](<https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Rechargeable-Pointer-Magnetic-Endcap/dp/B0D2Z35134/?tag=drive09e6-20&th=1>). It's a magnetic work light, it's got a belt or shirt clip, it's got a flashlight mode, it's got a laser pointer, it's got a freaking ruler printed on the side, and it's USB rechargable. That's so many great little features in one tiny cylinder! I get a little skeptical when a company tries to cram a million tricks into one inexpensive item, but I've had good luck with Coast knives and lights, so I'm optimistic about this one. And at that price, it's worth trying just for fun. I might grab a handful and start giving them as gifts.

As far as more standard-style flashlights go, I love the look of the Slayer, even if that name is a little ... much. It comes in a few colors, but the best price is on a silver one.

Until humans evolve to have true night vision, a headlamp will remain one of the most critical items you can have in your garage. I've got four gigantic LED tubes for overhead lighting in my workshop, and I still need one of these because guess what—the lights in the ceiling don't help much when you're under a car. This one is voice-activated too, which could be incredibly helpful when your hands are full.

All of those lights are USB rechargeable and don't require AAA batteries. But if you have anything else that does, while you're here, throw these [Coast rechargeable AAA](<https://www.amazon.com/Coast-Rechargeable-Batteries-ZITHION-X-8-Battery/dp/B0CFSYCVZB/?tag=drive09e6-20&th=1>)s in your cart and never have to buy them again!
