# The 2026 Chevy Colorado Is a Midsize Truck, and I’m a Midsized Man. So Why Don’t I Fit?

I don't often complain about driving positions in cars. Call it a happy consequence of being deeply average in the height department. At 5 feet, 10 inches, I can usually find a slot in any vehicle that works for me. If it's a low-slung coupe with a manual, then, sure—the need to also easily reach the shifter and be able to get my left foot all the way to the firewall complicates things. But I don't expect to have problems getting comfortable in anything, and I definitely didn't expect it in this [Chevy Colorado](<https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/2023-chevrolet-colorado-first-drive-review-punchy-polished-and-mostly-practical.md>) Trail Boss.

The Colorado is roomy, at least for front occupants, which isn't surprising given that it's a pickup truck. What did surprise me is that, despite having all that space to play with plus ample headroom, my seating options quickly seemed limited. As far as I can tell, it's all down to the steering wheel.

It simply doesn't telescope far enough. Even with the wheel extended as long and high as it can go, my legs feel like they're crunched up in the footwells, at too vertical a position. But if I pull the seat back to give my legs and knees some relief, then the wheel is just a smidge too far away.

It doesn't help either that the Evotex seats—while nice to look at and pleasant to the touch—feel a little overpadded, bouncing me out of the throne rather than letting me settle in.

All of this is a little unfortunate because I broadly found the Colorado to be a good truck. The trouble is, it may not be a good truck *for me*. To check if I was crazy, I asked my pal and *The Drive's* truck maestro Caleb Jacobs if he noticed any weirdness in the driver's seat when he [tested a Colorado ZR2 Bison a few years back](<https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/chevy-colorado-zr2-vs-can-am-maverick-review.md>). For reference, Caleb is what they call a mountain of a man, at 6 feet, 5 inches tall and 290 pounds, so I wasn't sure how much we'd relate anyway, but he said GM's midsizer worked A-OK for him.

At the end of the day, ergonomics are a personal matter, and no two bodies require the same fit. If I were shopping for a midsize pickup, I would entertain the Colorado for its surprisingly athletic road manners, reasonable price, and torquey turbo-four (it even runs on 87!). But I might have to look elsewhere for less fatigue at the wheel.
