# New Porsche 3-Row EV Will Get at Least 650 HP, Diff Locks, and Some Weird Looks

Porsche's plan to[ electrify all its SUVs](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/every-porsche-suv-will-be-electric-by-2030-including-a-new-cayenne-ev>) by 2030 peaks at its three-row "K1." [Porsche ](<https://www.thedrive.com/category/porsche-news>)is no stranger to SUVs at this point, but the K1 will be a bit of a departure from even Porsche's new norm. According to *[Auto Motor und Sport](<https://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/neuheiten/porsche-elektro-flaggschiff-ueber-cayenne/>)*, Porsche's "Über-SUV" won't just be the biggest vehicle Porsche's ever made but also will have an atypical design for the brand and even differential locks at both axles.

The [Porsche K1 ](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/big-porsche-electric-suv-is-coming-with-off-road-suspension-400-mile-range-report>)will be built on the VW Group's upcoming SSP architecture, its most advanced electric architecture. That platform comes with 900-volt technology, which provides charge times of just 15 minutes to 80% state-of-charge. It should also have a dual-motor powertrain capable of 650 continuous horsepower but a peak of around 1,000 horsepower. Its permanently excited synchronous (PSM) motors get direct oil cooling for the stator for increased continuous power.

Both electric motors are said to be hooked up to single-speed gearboxes and mechanical locking differentials. The K1 reportedly will have an adjustable air suspension to raise its ride height enough to handle some decent off-roading. While it might not take on cars like a Mercedes G-Class or Range Rover, in terms of off-road capability, Porsche certainly has its eye on the Mercedes EQS SUV and BMW iX.

What does this atypical three-row Porsche SUV look like? A while back, according to [*Autocar*](<https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-porsche-k1-rapid-seven-seat-luxury-ev-2027>), Porsche CEO Oliver Blume described the K1's design as “a very sporting interpretation of an SUV.” *Auto Motor und Sport* reported that Porsche showed an early K1 sketch to U.S. dealers, who said it had a short hood, steep windshield, sloping roofline, and a flat rear design. It's said to have a "half sedan, half crossover" design, whatever that means. Is it going to look like a swollen Cayenne Coupe with a Kammback?

Don't expect to find out until after 2026, potentially closer to 2030. The K1 will be Porsche's final electric SUV of the decade, following the electric Macan in 2024 and the electric Cayenne after 2026. Then the K1 will round out the brand's almost entirely electric lineup. Except for, [you know](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/19810/porsche-wont-be-making-a-fully-electric-911-says-ceo>).

Nico is a writer and reviewer from New Jersey who probably thinks he’s a lot funnier than he actually is. His love of cars began when he was just a kid playing Gran Turismo 3, grinding out enough race wins with a Mazda Miata to save up for an in-game RUF 911. That passion for small, lightweight sports cars drove his desire to learn more about the industry, get his hands on as many cars as he could, and bring those experiences to life on the page. He cut his teeth writing about BMWs, Volkswagens, and Audis, mostly, and has owned far too many of each. He’s on his fourth 3 Series sedan, but all of his old, cheap German cars have forced him to learn more about car maintenance than his mechanical capability can handle. Too many late nights have been spent scrambling to get a car running by morning so he could get to work. For some reason, he never seems to learn that old Bimmers probably aren’t the best daily drivers. But he loves more than just old German cars. He’ll gladly drive and discuss anything with four (or even three) wheels. Cars aren’t his only passions, though. Nico is also a big nerd and loves movies, video games, comic books, and cares far too much about the New York Giants. So don’t be surprised if you see football references or dumb, obscure movie quotes in any of his car reviews.
