Latest Ford Recall Affects 1.3 Million Sedans Including Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ
Another recall for Ford Motor Company, and it’s a big one.
Ford Motor Company issued a recall for 1,280,726 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZ sedans related to the vehicles' braking systems. Following an investigation, the automaker discovered that the front brake hoses may rupture over time, which could cause the braking system to lose pressure and increase the risk of a crash.
Owners will be notified if the issue affects their vehicle via mail by April 17. Before then, owners can check their VIN number on the NHTSA's website. The campaign number for this particular recall is 23V162000. Hybrid versions of these vehicles are not affected.
In its report, the NHTSA says that the rupture is caused by failure of the "internal reinforcement braid due to cyclic fatigue via tensile/bending." This cyclic fatigue is the result of normal driving. If their vehicle suffers front brake hose failure, the agency claims, "The driver may experience an increase in pedal travel together with a reduction in the rate of deceleration, increasing the risk of a crash."
Ford will replace both front brake hoses to address the issue. The original hoses were not made by the Dearborn automaker itself, but by a supplier in Mexico.
This recall is the latest in a string of defects Ford has had to address on a number of its vehicles. In 2023 alone, we have covered three separate recalls from the Dearborn automaker affecting everything from the new F-150 Lightning to the Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and ICE-powered F-150 pickup. The company's own CEO, Jim Farley, has stated that fixing its long-running quality issues is his biggest priority.
