![The Drivecast Ep. 12 Hero](<https://www.thedrive.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/untitled-0264_697ef0-e1776259139828.jpg>)

In a shocking turn of events both Hyundai and Kia are preparing body-on-frame pickup trucks. Sounds far-fetched, but it’s true, and it’s quite the development as these two juggernauts continue to blaze a trail forward challenging the rest of the industry on multiple fronts.

From the [Palisade](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/2026-hyundai-palisade-xrt-pro-review>) and [Telluride](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/the-2027-kia-telluride-looks-like-a-budget-range-rover-thats-missing-a-face>), some of the best in their respective classes, to [truly impressive EVs](<https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/2026-hyundai-ioniq-6-n-quick-review>) and [sharp-looking economy cars](<https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/2025-kia-k4-review>), Hyundai and Kia have been underestimated at multiple points, and now the industry’s watching closely. Hyundai announced it will kick off a family of body-on-frame vehicles in the U.S. before 2030 and teased them with [an SUV that looked like a Bronco competitor](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/hyundai-targets-bronco-wrangler-with-body-on-frame-boulder-concept>). A week later, [Kia confirmed it too will be bringing a body-on-frame truck to the U.S.](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/kias-launching-a-body-on-frame-truck-by-2030-tds>) by 2030, and it even talked powertrains.

The latest episode of *[The Drivecast](<https://www.thedrive.com/category/podcast>)* goes behind the curtain on what the upcoming [body-on-frame Hyundai pickup truck will be like](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/hyundai-learned-the-hard-way-what-truck-buyers-do-and-dont-want>), what [Hyundai's learned](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/midsize-trucks-have-all-the-same-problems-hyundai-thinks-it-can-fix-them>) and will try and do to fix shortcomings with the current crop of midsize trucks on the market, and even what the future holds in [terms of functionality](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/hyundai-boulder-signals-the-era-of-cyberpunk-car-interiors-is-coming-fast>) with these upcoming models.
