# Here’s What a Classic Ford Pickup Looks Like Made from Carbon Fiber

Custom, vintage-inspired trucks are hot. What was once the domain of chopped up hot rods and a whole slew of muscle cars is now giving way to America's favorite commuter vehicle: the pickup truck. Take this all-carbon 1968 Ford [F-100](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/angry-girlfriend-sells-boyfriends-heirloom-1972-ford-f100-scrapyard-gets-felony-charge.md>) dubbed "Tricky"—no doubt a reference to its builder, [Trick Rides](<https://trickrides.com/tricky/>).

The silhouette may be vintage, but the materials and methods certainly aren't. Beneath that custom, all-carbon skin is a [Roadster Shop](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/roadster-shop-reveals-60000-custom-chassis-for-15000-chevy-gmt400-pickups.md>) RS4 chassis fitted with a 2.5-inch lift kit, an independent front suspension, and parallel four-bar rear setup. It's fitted with Fox coilovers and heavy-duty front and rear sway bars, and the steering is rack-and-pinion. Disc brakes? Check.

It doesn't end there. As much as your eyes may want to deceive you, just about everything apart from the interior on this rig is modern, especially the 32-valve Coyote V8 under the hood. And just for good measure, it's supercharged. Four-wheel drive is optional; naturally, it's part of this promo build, and you're probably going to want it with all that power under the hood. Oh, and it's rocking a six-speed Tremec gearbox mated to a 9" Ford rear end.

Trick Rides has a background in building modernized pony cars (both Mustangs and Camaros) and even [does its own](<https://trickrides.com/eleanor-serial-number-1/>) take on [Eleanor](<https://www.thedrive.com/news/shelby-gt500-eleanor-lookalikes-finally-freed-after-copyright-battle.md>). The leap to a pickup seems pretty logical. V8s gonna V8, after all.

"Built entirely in-house at the Trick Rides facility in Yukon, Oklahoma, Tricky retains the classic lines of the iconic 1968 F-100 while replacing the entire body with lightweight carbon fiber from Brothers Composites finished in Blue Candy paint laid over the exposed carbon weave," the company's release said.

We only barely scratched the surface of this SEMA rig. What does something like that run? As the saying goes, [if you have to ask](<https://www.thedrive.com/car-reviews/e-c-d-ford-mustang-restomod-review.md>)...
