Good morning and welcome to *The Downshift*, or *TDS* for short.

Tight, light, and right, *TDS* gathers the latest automotive news from around the globe and brings it all together in one place. Stories are summarized in a single, sometimes rather long, sentence accompanied by a link for those seeking more information.

The first cup of coffee is gone, I'm already onto my second, and the weekend is in sight. Let's get into it.

🚘 What I’m driving: Still driving the 2026 Nissan Leaf and am digging the overall design, but the rear seat packaging is tight and there's a distinct lack of toe room back there.

🪫 Ford [reportedly might kill the electric F-150 pickup truck](<https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/ford-150-lightning-ev-decision-89dc0d84?mod=autos_news_article_pos3>), which was supposed to be the automaker's next Model T moment, but instead what should've been a flagship has become a money-losing proposition.

🤑 Shareholders overwhelmingly, to the tune of over 75%, [voted in favor of Tesla CEO Elon Musk's record-breaking $1 trillion pay package](<https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/elon-musk-tesla-pay-package-vote-9abd5a73?mod=autos_news_article_pos2>), which has stipulations that [Musk plans to achieve](<https://www.autonews.com/tesla/an-tesla-ceo-musk-plans-to-earn-trillion-pay-package/?utm_id=gfta-ur-251107&share-code=SGDYFKQMRNAFFAM5G5CKQTX3AE&user_id=4532198&customer_secondary_source=aac_articleGifting>) with "wild" self-driving robotaxis and AI-focused robots, the former of which is claimed to [go into production in April](<https://insideevs.com/news/778232/tesla-cybercab-production-april-2026/>); but the Roadster demonstration that was just promised to happen by the end of the year ahead of the vote has [already been pushed back to April 1](<https://insideevs.com/news/778258/tesla-roadster-2-reveal-april-fools/>).

‼️ Honda [cut its annual operating profit outlook](<https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/honda-reports-25-fall-q2-operating-profit-2025-11-07/>) noting the slowing of EV sales and the Asian market; the Japanese automaker also [recalled over 406,000 vehicles](<https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/honda-recall-over-406000-us-vehicles-over-wheel-detachment-issue-nhtsa-says-2025-11-07/>) in the U.S. over a wheel detachment issue.

🔌 Volvo said its EX60 midsize electric SUV [will be priced like a plug-in hybrid](<https://www.autonews.com/volvo/an-volvo-ex60-ev-priced-like-phev-1106/?utm_id=gfta-ur-251107&share-code=HDWG3SGFL5COJLRPYVMA6NE5BY&user_id=4532198&customer_secondary_source=aac_articleGifting>).

💰 The parent company of Trico and Fram, which filed bankruptcy earlier in the year, [said it needs $600 million](<https://www.autonews.com/retail/service-and-parts/an-first-brands-needs-money-1106/?utm_id=gfta-ur-251107&share-code=TTIPQMQIGBFN7H77WZZIBRN5UA&user_id=4532198&customer_secondary_source=aac_articleGifting>) or else "it's game over."

🏷️ Nissan is [executing a fire sale](<https://www.autonews.com/nissan/an-nissan-infiniti-closes-mexico-compas-factory-product-plan-1106/?utm_id=gfta-ur-251107&share-code=HPFVDKEIPJGSTPC4LR5PAEXG3E&user_id=4532198&customer_secondary_source=aac_articleGifting>) of all the things including closing factories worldwide, its headquarters in Yokohama, and slashing products; but the automaker plans to reinvent and invest in its luxury brand, Infiniti, with product expansion including at least three new models.

🔋 The [2026 BMW i4 arrives](<https://insideevs.com/news/778177/2026-bmw-i4-range-power/>) with more range and more power along with upgraded inverters and an expanded trim lineup.
