5️⃣ While Audi hasn't signaled that its trademark five-cylinder engine is living on borrowed time, the threat of ever-tightening emissions regulations always puts weird enthusiast engines in jeopardy. Fortunately, Audi Sport boss Rolf Michl is saying all the right things to indicate that the five-pot still has life ahead of it, saying in an interview that, "We're well aware about the historical meaning of the five-cylinder," and that, "Evaluations are still running, and people who know me know that I also have a personal relationship to the five-cylinder engine. It's so characteristic and also deeply rooted in history—so let's see." Today, the motor is only used in the RS3. *\[[Autocar](<https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/its-so-characteristic-audi-mulls-options-five-cylinder-future>)\]*

📜 Negotiations are ongoing to cut down the U.S.'s tariff rate on Canadian vehicles, which currently sits at 25%. Key to the matter right now is whether North American content could be deducted from the tariff rate, or U.S. content specifically. The goal is a reduction to 15%, but depending on the final content rules, the "effective rate" could even be lowered to single digits. *\[[Reuters](<https://www.reuters.com/business/us-canada-try-bridge-gaps-over-potential-autos-tariff-cuts-sources-say-2026-08-17/>)\]*

⚡ Honda and Acura don't currently offer hybrid powertrains in the HR-V subcompact SUV and its more luxurious counterpart, the ADX. Gary Robinson, American Honda product planning boss, indicated in an interview that the primary barrier to such technology is cost, particularly given that it's an entry-level segment. *\[[Automotive News](<https://www.autonews.com/honda/an-honda-expanding-hybrid-tech-to-subcompact-crossovers-0818/>)\]*

🏭 Additional details about Jaguar Land Rover's plan to team up with Stellantis and use some of the latter's production capacity to start building cars in the U.S. has come to ight thanks to a JLR earnings call. Chief Financial Officer Richard Molyneux made it clear that the company is eyeing production in the U.S. strictly—not Canada or Mexico—while stressing how valuable the U.S. market is to the company. "Remember, the US has 40% of the world's millionaires, has a propensity to SUVs where we're strong, and has a strong affinity to our brands: Range Rover, Defender, and Jaguar, in particular." *\[[CarBuzz](<https://carbuzz.com/stellantis-to-build-land-rover-defender-in-america/>)\]*

When asked whether such a vehicle has a place at the storied brand, the chief executive said, "Yes, definitely. Definitely. I agree one hundred percent. Imagine \[a\] V-16 with a manual. Real manual." *\[[Road & Track](<https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a73456461/bugatti-boss-mate-rimac-v-16-manual-transmission/>)\]*
